“No globalization without representation” – a paraphrase of the more famous “No taxation without representation” – was one of the most popular slogans of the so called “Anti-globalization movement” and demonstrations, from Seattle in 1999 to Genoa 2001. And even beyond, to the recent and current #occupy movements.
Basically, this protest against globalization was and is a claim for more – and for true – democracy in global governance.
For this reason, we have chosen this title for a conference at the University of Verona (Italy), on Thursday October 23. The event is arranged on the occasion of the UN Day and of the Global Week of Action for a World Parliament, and is organized together with the local organizations of Young European Federalists (GFE) and the Union of University Students (Udu).
Together with professors, experts, students, representatives from civil society and fellow citizens, we will debate about United Nation’s Reform and the perspective of a World Parliament. We will also present the UNPA Campaign for the first time in the city of Verona.
At the beginning and at the end of the conference there will be an opportunity for everyone to join a flash-mob with a banner message: “World Parliament Now!”
